Separatist terrorism in West Papua kills civilians

On Thursday, September 17, 2020, at 10.30 local time, armed Papuan separatis terrorism tortured and killed a 49-year-old ojek driver (a private owned motorcycle taxi) who was identified as Badawi. Badawi was attacked in Bilogai, Supaga District, after escorting his passenger.

In a separate location, the Commander of Korem 173/PVB, Brigadier General (army) Iwan Setiawan, admitted that on the same day, armed rebel also carried out an attack against a member of the Indonesian Army, at around 14:40 WS, named Sersan Kepala Sahlan. Sahlan, who had just returned from Sugapa District to take the logistics, was attacked about one kilometer from the headquarters of Koramil Preparation in Hipadipa and the SS1 assault weapon was also taken by the armed group. The victim’s body was evacuated to Timika and then flown to Makassar. Sahlan is a member of the BKO of the Kodim Preparatory and comes from the Kodim 1404 / Pinrang.

Previously, on September 13, armed separatists also shot two motorcycle taxi drivers in the Sugapa area, but they managed to survive the attack. The two drivers are currently undergoing maintenance in Timika, the capital of Mimika Regency.

One month ago, in August 2020, three civilians were attacked and killed in Yahukimo District. One of the civilians was identified as Yausan.
